Creative Culture: Creative Play for Learning

The event will touch on creativity and co-creativity through the medium of play and games and the design process of such activities. Game and play design should tap into our own experiences to enable a more holistic approach for designing new learning activities for our learners. And learners can have a deeper and a more collaborative learning experience through the process of creating and co-creating. Case studies will include the management of the co-creative process and evaluation at the Université Côte d’Azur (keynote from Professor Margarida Romero) and the engagement with teachers and learners at rural schools in Malaysia via the Newton-Funded CreativeCulture project ( The event will also have optional hands-on workshops on playful activities

Creative Cultures goes to Malaysia

CreativeCulture (NEWTON) aims to expand the programme to address educational challenges within the context of inclusive learning for learners from the rural parts of Malaysia Borneo. It will involve collaborations with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), where we will explore, exploit and experiment the impact of arts, design and culture in enhancing creative thinking and development in education (primary and secondary K12) through game design and computational thinking as an approach and instrument for fostering creative problem solving and transcultural practices in Malaysia.

Remix Play Summit

Hosted by the Disruptive Media Learning Lab, the event will move beyond “gamification”, “serious games” and “game based learning”, and will examine the playful roots and meanings of these approaches and provide an interdisciplinary discussion space to explore the opportunities that play and playfulness can provide for both students and staff.
